QUOTE 7: IDENTITY
_"My identity is not my family, it is not my school, not my college, not my degree, not my grades, not my work, not my achievements, not my failures, not my future, not my past, not my religion, not my beliefs and not even my friends. My identity is not based on the external world. It is a more permanent core deep within, wherein lies the true self. That is ME and will forever remain in spite of what happens in the outside world."
_EXPLANATION:
While this quote might seem unrealistic and idealistic, it has a lot of truth in it. Whenever you base your identity on 'objects' or the 'external world', you are bound to be dissapointed as the external world is impermanent and forever changing. So what makes you happy today might result in your suffering and misery tomorrow. But 'within' oneself is a more permanent core which does not perceive or judge circumstances as being happy or sad, good or bad but is more deeply rooted in 'balance', 'peace', 'harmony' and 'love'. External conditions/events no longer shape one's identity and therefore impermanence and the forever changing external world does not result into suffering or misery.
